Friends,

It has been awhile, but that is because the Summer at Sandy Spring staff has been busily working to get ready for Summer of 2012 registrations!

But the time has finally come and Summer at Sandy Spring will be rolling out it's updated camp website, brochure, and new registration system on Friday, December 8th. Be prepared to explore new camp offerings, like the addition of 6th grade campers to our friends camp and learn more about how our registration process is easier then ever.

Check everything out and let us know how it is! You can do that by e-mailing us, camp@ssfs.org, calling us at 301.774.7455 ext. 167, or telling us on Facebook.

We are looking forward to seeing campers register for a summer full of fun!

See ya in 2012!

Camp Director

Hello Friends!

I can not tell you how excited I am that I get the opportunity to be the Camp Director for the Summer at Sandy Spring camp! Since attending camp for the first time in elementary school and wanting to be a camp counselor, to when I was I was a camp counselor and wanting to become a camp director,  I had always envisioned myself working in a camp setting and here I am, working at a Summer at Sandy Spring!  I absolutely love camp and I love what it brings to the children and the staff that participate in it.  No where else can children have fun, be silly, feel safe and be a part of a community more so then in a camp setting. There are no worries in camp, a camper can be a kid, make friends, develop social skills & self respect, and learn about themselves.

My favorite camp experiences were when I went to camp not knowing anyone and after the week was over  I made the new friends that became my best friends in school. As a camper I also loved my camp counselors and how they seemed so cool, so smart, and so old! I can't believe that is what my campers will think of me next summer!

My life experiences were mapped out perfectly for me to take on the role of Camp Director. I have several years of camp experience. I have had the opportunity to volunteer at Young Life Camps over four different summers doing four different jobs. I have been a cook, a house keeper, a ropes course manager, and an office assistant, so when it comes to camp, I understand every role. I have also had the opportunity to be a camp counselor and experience what it's like to work directly with campers. My experience also extends out to outdoor education as I was a rock climbing instructor at Earth Treks Climbing Centers and a ropes course and team building facilitator and Terrapin Adventures.

Before coming to Sandy Spring in July I graduated from Frostburg State University with a Bachelors degree in Parks and Recreation Management and was working as a Guest Relations Specialist at Terrapin Adventures, learning and better understanding customer service and media marketing.

Since July, I have been very busy. I was able to see camp 2011 in action, and be able to learn how to adjust summer of 2012. Right now I am  in the process of designing our camp website, our camp brochure, planning our theme weeks (Olympic week anyone?) and planning the overall day to day happenings. I am looking forward to the weeks and months leading up to camp and can not wait to fill you all in with what we are doing.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at Camp@ssfs.org. As well as we are also on Facebook and Twitter, so follow us there as well!

Look forward to hearing from you all and seeing you this Summer!!
